Falmouth on Saturday will be preceeded with a quick visit to the Ocean State for Vassar’s St George’s reunion.  This is the second year in a row we’ve spent this same weekend in Newport – last year for the awesome Horner-Tomberg celebration!

Thinking I had exhausted my generosity on the silent auction, I then wandered into Gretchen Scott’s pop-up shop.  Have you seen Gretchen Scott Designs?!  There was no way I was leaving with out one of her adorable tunics, dresses or scarves; especially when she was generously donating 100% of the proceeds to the school.   Not to mention, Gretchen herself is a doll (and a killer salesperson)!  Snagging a royal blue and silver metallic tunic dress – I’m just counting down the weeks to 4th of July 2012! (There are 8).

I was reading the New York Times Magazine last weekend and came across a small article (with a full page spread) about Sophie Aschauer and her rope mats!  Anyone up for a sunny afternoon on a boat?

In true nautical style, SerpentSea mats are made with recycled marine rope and held together by traditional sailors knots.  Founded in 2011 following a visit to Nantucket, Sophie hand-makes each individual mat for a totally unique pattern beneath your feet!

Floors aren’t the only thing being spiffed up by ropes these days, sailor knots and ropes are also the premise of bracelets dressing wrists throughout the north east.  I love everything made in Maine.  So naturally, I love The ROPES, a collection of bracelets fashioned from marine rope and hardware in neutral and florescent colors. I am convinced that these bracelets are going to be the thing to finally get Vassar excited about purchasing jewelry for his girlfriend (moi) – wishful thinking?

The story starts when my grandparents, Heather and Valpy Davis, tied the knot in Wales in 1952.  The wedding reception that followed took place at the Three Salmons (which still exists and is the site of this Saturday night’s 60th celebration).
