Two weeks ago, I took a vacation.  It wasn’t until I touched down at the Savannah/Hilton Head airport that I realized quite how much I needed this vacation.  Despite being a full-fledged member of America’s nine-to-five work force for over three years now, I have yet to come to terms with the fact that days off don’t automatically include a spring break, a (three month) summer break, and a Christmas break, not to mention, Thanksgiving and other various long weekends in between.  As I have now realized, vacation days are precious, but taking a week-long (or longer) vacation is even more vital to the sanity of one’s nine-to-five existence.   And so seven days in a beautiful, beach-front sanctuary on Hilton Head Island was just the fix for my over-scheduled existence – lots of reading and relaxing with a spattering of fancy cocktails, all with wonderful friends.

The first six days pretty much looked like this:

Then on Friday, Helen and Colin, joined us and completely spoiled us with a visit to a very special place, Palmetto Bluff.  Palmetto Bluff is a resort that has essentially every thing you would need to survive in complete luxury in a single location for forever, hence a modern day utopia.

And as we all very well know, utopia is the perfect place for a wedding.  From the quintessential southern architecture, the perfect landscaping, to the wispy Spanish moss that romantically drapes over the branches of each tree and the gas lit street lamps that line every brick walkway, this is the epitome of a gorgeous South Carolinian plantation.  There is a classic Inn, an expansive pool club complete with cabanas and cushioned day beds, and the cutest little chapel that you’ve possibly every seen; all over-looking the gorgeous May River.  Here’s a mini tour:

Look at this little chapel!  It’s just so darn cute; perfect for a wedding on the smaller side as it seats about 90 guests.

Want to tie the knot outside?  The ruins would be a stunning backdrop for any ceremony.

After exploring the grounds we had the yummiest lunch on the porch of the River House.  I have acquired a new obsession with fried green tomatoes.

I couldn’t help but take a sneak peek at the ballroom which was set for an understated autumnal celebration for the second (!!) wedding of the day.  The miniature pumpkins acted as place card holders; each had the name of a guest pinned to them.  Too cute to resist snapping a few photos!

Even the plantation’s gas station is adorable – have you ever seen such a quaint place to fill up your tank!?

A few weeks ago, I was having drinks with one of Vassar’s friends who is presently planning her upcoming nuptials, and she chatted about how there is so much pressure to make a wedding unique and different. Yet, every wedding sort of takes the same shape, there is some sort of a rehearsal dinner, then a ceremony and finally there is a reception, in which you are supposed to show to all of your guests just who you two are as a couple, how creative you can be at showing that and make sure that those guys and gals have fun too!  As I always believe, it’s in the details.  It’s the little things that make a celebration stand out – because anyone can pick that venue, what time of year and those colors.

Which brings me to a wedding which I am honored to say that I was able to participate in over the weekend of July 17th – the wedding of Amanda and Chris!  Amanda’s wedding was so perfectly… Amanda.  That is honestly the best way to describe the lovely series of events that surrounded Amanda and Chris’s super fun, incredibly moving, and absolutely pretty weekend.

It started with an idyllic venue – Belle Haven Yacht Club.

And a stunning bride.

Nantucket baskets of blue and white flowers for the cutest flower girls!

Look at pretty Lilly amongst the perfectly set tables.

I love that instead of table numbers, guests were assigned to different cities with photos of Amanda and Chris in each one.

In lieu of favors, guests were given shells and a donation was made to a fund affiliated with one of Chris’ army guys.  Such a touching personal detail.

The wedding party – so much fun!

Congratulations to such an amazing couple!  I can’t wait to visit you both (and Colby – yes, the new dog is named COLBY) in Vegas!

tangerine and turquoise.

I have always loved the combination of orange and aqua together but I’ve never been creative enough to put together the great alliteration of tangerine and turquoise.  I love love the bold contrast of these colors on each other, they way they make each other pop and the feisty, fresh look of this fabulous table scape photographed by Edmonton’s edgy wedding photographer env.

What’s your favorite color combo, scheme or palette?

wedding trend – the match box.

I was browsing Style Me Pretty today, a pleasure that I seem to seriously lack the time to explore lately, and noticed a trend.  It occurred to me about ten drool-worth weddings into the blog how popular, cute and simple personalized match boxes are.  From preppy to vintage – you can incorporate any color or style into these miniature keepsakes.  It’s all in the details and this one is just so fun!

I think I have spotted the worlds’ most gorgeous display of cupcakes.  I can now die in peace.  (Okay, not entirely as I have not gorged myself on one of these, but if they taste even a smidgen as delish as they look then I know I would be happy.)

A favorite blog of mine, Hostess with the Mostess, featured this vibrant, stunning wedding earlier this month - they did not miss a beat with the pretty details.   Bright florals, personalized touches, and towers of miniature cakes!  Adorned with fresh fruit, sugary flowers and a display garnished with gerbera daisies, they are simply to die for.

Kudos to Paige One Events in Cali for the brains behind this super special party!
