Two weeks ago, I took a vacation. It wasn’t until I touched down at the Savannah/Hilton Head airport that I realized quite how much I needed this vacation. Despite being a full-fledged member of America’s nine-to-five work force for over three years now, I have yet to come to terms with the fact that days off don’t automatically include a spring break, a (three month) summer break, and a Christmas break, not to mention, Thanksgiving and other various long weekends in between. As I have now realized, vacation days are precious, but taking a week-long (or longer) vacation is even more vital to the sanity of one’s nine-to-five existence. And so seven days in a beautiful, beach-front sanctuary on Hilton Head Island was just the fix for my over-scheduled existence – lots of reading and relaxing with a spattering of fancy cocktails, all with wonderful friends.
The first six days pretty much looked like this:

Then on Friday, Helen and Colin, joined us and completely spoiled us with a visit to a very special place, Palmetto Bluff. Palmetto Bluff is a resort that has essentially every thing you would need to survive in complete luxury in a single location for forever, hence a modern day utopia.
And as we all very well know, utopia is the perfect place for a wedding. From the quintessential southern architecture, the perfect landscaping, to the wispy Spanish moss that romantically drapes over the branches of each tree and the gas lit street lamps that line every brick walkway, this is the epitome of a gorgeous South Carolinian plantation. There is a classic Inn, an expansive pool club complete with cabanas and cushioned day beds, and the cutest little chapel that you’ve possibly every seen; all over-looking the gorgeous May River. Here’s a mini tour:
Look at this little chapel! It’s just so darn cute; perfect for a wedding on the smaller side as it seats about 90 guests.

Want to tie the knot outside? The ruins would be a stunning backdrop for any ceremony.

After exploring the grounds we had the yummiest lunch on the porch of the River House. I have acquired a new obsession with fried green tomatoes.

I couldn’t help but take a sneak peek at the ballroom which was set for an understated autumnal celebration for the second (!!) wedding of the day. The miniature pumpkins acted as place card holders; each had the name of a guest pinned to them. Too cute to resist snapping a few photos!

Even the plantation’s gas station is adorable – have you ever seen such a quaint place to fill up your tank!?
