For this week’s happy hour fix, I defer to CT Bites (thank you Ellie for sending this great site). They have gone in search of what the cool “people are drinking” and found it amongst several creative Connecticut bloggers. I am obsessed with the cucumber watermelon garnish!

Friday, August 6th, 2010sangria.
Friday, July 16th, 2010In honor of Amanda’s wedding THIS WEEKEND (so excited), it is only appropriate today’s happy hour treat is a drink that was consumed for the bride-to-be’s bachelorette party at Barcelona. Refreshing in red or white, fruity and flavorful without being too sweet (if it’s done right), sangria is one of my favorite summer sips. Plus, with all that fruit, it’s almost healthy!
Cheers to Amanda & Chris and a long, fulfilling and happy life together!
happy hour friday.
Friday, May 21st, 2010I am trying something new. Every Friday will now be “happy hour friday” where I will feature a chosen beverage which I will highly recommend that you experience during the upcoming weekend. Cocktails are one of the most important assets to any gathering and appropriately, I am going to highlight them with their very own day.
Last weekend, Vassar and I went to one of Boston’s new restaurants, Anthem Kitchen & Bar. Though it is in Faneuil Hall and I spend a considerable amount of time trying to figure out how to avoid Faneuil Hall, I had high hopes for this City Table sister. Solid food, but even better was the blueberry lemonade! The perfect spring cocktail, this drink is sweet, tart and refreshing all at once.
2 cups of water, 4 squeezed lemons, frozen blueberries and a lemon garnish – yum yum.

It was decided that I would host a cocktail party complete with a signature beverage and an array of hors d’oeuvres to celebrate my birthday. Thank goodness for Trader Joe’s! After stocking up on some serious supplies, we got to work. The signature drink of the evening was the “Fizzy Pear” which was comprised of a splash of pear brandy, sparkling wine and a pear garnish. Very boozy but very delish.
My favorite appetizers of the evening were easy to make and fun to eat – thanks to TJ’s mini pita pouches. Slice these bite-sized pitas in half and fill them with either tabouli or hummus and a half cuke slice for a delightful, easy to eat treat!

There’s nothing more fun than setting the mood for an evening with a signature cocktail. It’s a great way to welcome guests to a party and instigate excitement for the coming festivities. The lovely Alison brought an inspirational cocktail concoction book by Kate Simon down to Hilton Head entitled, Tiny Bubbles - “Fizzy Cocktails for Every Occasion, Using Champagne, Prosecco, and Other Sparkling Wines.” Let’s not forget to note that bubbles are my absolute weakness and the majority of the recipes in this book look completely divine. The book covers traditional mixes, contemporary twists, non-alcoholic suggestions and some delectable looking bites to compliment the beverages.
